Anniversary: It's hard to believe but the
Durham bakery Guglhupf is going to have its one-year anniversary this
weekend.
To celebrate the occasion, the bakery's owners, Hartmut
Jahn and Claudia Kemmet-Cooper, will offer customers pieces of a very large
birthday torte on Sunday. In addition, there will be a photo exhibit showing the
renovation work that went into the birth of Guglhupf.
The bakery, which is located at 2706 Chapel Hill Blvd.,
near Foster's Market, also will have some specials to mark the store's
anniversary.
The bakery's first year has been a success, Jahn said, and
the wholesale side of the business is starting to pick up as well. Guglhupf is
the bread supplier for 23, which is Michael Jordan's restaurant in Chapel
Hill.
While Jahn and Kemmet-Cooper have put in a lot of hours at
the store, customers have made it worthwhile, Jahn said. "If we didn't have the
clientele we do, it wouldn't be as fun," he said. "You meet some interesting
people here."
