Busy bakers: The folks at Guglhupf have been closed since July 4 as they fine-tune the bakery's interior and exterior. The Chapel Hill Boulevard store will reopen Friday at 7:30 a.m.

The bakery's front entrance will have a new face and inside there'll be tiling, some new colors and a coffee station. The business's driveway also will be changed. Owners Hartmut Jahn and Claudia Cooper also have plans to improve the store's landscaping and exterior look but the weather hasn't been cooperating.

"A lot of the most visible changes will be outside and that got slowed down," Cooper said.

The couple is still working toward the ultimate goal of outdoor seating. But first come restrooms, which hopefully will be up and going by October. After that, look for an expanded patio area with about 20 tables. "Somewhere you can hide," Cooper said. And to top it off, a three-tier antique Spanish fountain, complete with lion heads.

"It's very tacky but wonderful," she noted.
